The closer you get to the old pit areas near the centre of town, the more interwar and postwar stock you see, solid semis with reasonable-sized front gardens where a full driveway project is straightforward. Head out towards Cannock Chase itself and the ground opens up, both literally and geologically. The sandier, better-draining soil near the Chase means patios and driveways don't sit in water the way they do on pure clay, so the job is simpler and the finished result lasts longer. However, some of the former mining ground can be more variable than it first appears, and we always do a proper site inspection before quoting, not just a quick walk around.
